NEWS JUST IN: Red Sox re-sign free agent left-hander who battled ailments in…..

Fort Myers, Florida: On Wednesday morning, a well-known face made a comeback to the Red Sox clubhouse.
According to a source who spoke with MassLive, veteran lefty Joely Rodríguez has returned to the team on a minor league contract. Despite being at big league camp, he will not be added to the 40-man roster. With few left-handed relief alternatives on the roster, Rodríguez, who missed the majority of his debut season with the Red Sox in 2023 due to injury, will have an opportunity to join the squad.

To Sean McAdam of MassLive, Red Sox pitching coach Andrew Bailey verified the impending deal.

“Happy for him. We are aware that his health comes first,” Bailey remarked. “He possesses electrical items. He’s here finishing off his physical. eager to meet him. We’re happy to welcome him back since we know he’s a decent guy and has a loud, lively personality.

Rodríguez, 32, was last winter’s unsuccessful free agent addition for former chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom. With an option for 2024, the veteran lefty inked a one-year, $2 million contract as the Sox’s first winter signing of that year. Baseball insiders claim that was a revised agreement that was originally reached but changed after unfavorable medical results were received. Subsequently, Rodríguez’s health became a significant concern. He and another unsuccessful signing Richard Bleier were expected to give manager Alex Cora a devastating left-handed bullpen arm. Only 11 innings were pitched by Rodríguez this season because to injuries; during that time, he had an ERA of 6.55.
