Michigan football spring preview: Position battles, key players and question marks as spring practices begin

The Michigan Wolverines are getting closer to the spring game, which means that as fans, we are getting closer to knowing the answers to a number of positional questions. For example, will head coach Sherrone Moore continue to consult the portal following April 20? Which freshmen have made the biggest gains? Could Henry “Downhill” Donohue wake up, look in the mirror, and declare, “Hell yeah, it’s Henry time!” and rush for 150 yards? Coaches will no longer be able to defend their statements with hyperbole, as evidenced by the numerous remarks made about Amorion Walker prior to Peyton O’Leary locking him in the torture chamber last season.

But let’s approach this a little differently as we look at three pivotal positional battles for the Wolverines. Let’s examine these matches via a WWE perspective in observance of WrestleMania, which takes place this weekend. What would these three positional matches look like if they were on a WrestleMania card?
With Josh Priebe, Greg Crippen, and Giovanni El-Hadi manning the middle, Michigan’s offensive line feels solid up front, but there are four strong candidates vying for the final spot on the outside.

Connor Jones and Myles Hinton are leading the way at left and right tackle, respectively, according to hints made by Jon Jansen on multiple times on the In the Trenches podcast. Fans do, however, recall some of Hinton’s difficulties last season at right tackle.
